Our friends at Athlete’s In Action Cycling have put together a really great set of cycling specific devotions. I will be posting one a week for the next seven weeks, then will need some new content. I invite all of you to submit any thoughts, general concepts or full-blown devotions to me at [email protected] so that we can not only post them for all of our members to read and enjoy, but also to share with AiACycling as a way of saying thanks for this great work.
Below is the introduction to the second on in the series. Enjoy
Sacrifice: Giving Up Glory for Good
By: Dr. Carl Hofmann
No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13
Domestiques in elite bike racing may not be glamorous, but they’re indispensable. These cycling “servants” ride tempo on the front, block headwinds, drift back to the team car for bottles, and give up a wheel for a teammate in need. They sacrifice their glory for the good of the team. We believe that Jesus Christ, as Son of God, was co-equal with the Father from all eternity. Yet, out of love, he was born among us and stooped to serve us in the most humble way: giving his life as a sacrifice for our sin. We’re called to receive this sacrificial gift–and share it with others as well.
